Alamo City Republican Women is again participating in the Wreaths Across America project. In November 2009 we sold 72 wreaths for placement on veterans graves at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. We decided to participate in this project 24 hours before the ordering deadline and we were able to sell 72 wreaths! In 2010 we sold 816 wreaths. The Wreaths Across America project began at Arlington National Cemetery and has spread across the USA. These wreaths are not for homes but to honor our deceased veterans.
On December 10th, 2011 a Memorial Service will be held at the cemetery followed by volunteers placing the wreaths on graves. We have set a goal for 2011 of selling 1000 wreaths. The cost for each 20 inch wreath is only $15.00. They are made from fresh Maine balsam and decorated with a red ribbon, and are shipped all across the US by volunteer shipping companies direct to the cemeteries.
Do you have a family member or friend you would like to honor? If you give us an exact name spelling, branch of service and rank, we will make certain a wreath is placed on that grave.
We know it is early to think of December 2011 but we are already accepting orders for 2011. If you would like to purchase a wreath, sell wreaths to friends or be on the committee, please contact Alamo City Republican Women's Military Affairs Chairwoman, Diane Dillon for information at: cdianedillon1@aol.com. To purchase a wreath or wreaths, mail your check to Margery Beitzel, 15403 Forest Mist, San Antonio, TX 78232. Make check payable to Wreaths across America.
