What a great April for Alamo City Republican Women! So many of ;you were involved with he San Antonio Tea Party and spent many hours downtown on April l5th. We know of well over l00 of our members who either volunteered at, or attended the Tea Party, and I am sure there are many more of you who we don't know about.
April 16th was Legislative Day for the Texas Federation of Republican Women. The Capitol was overrun by "ladies in red" from all across Texas. I believe I am correct in saying that over 820 women and a sprinkling of men attended the luncheon at he Austin Convention Center. Alamo City Republican Women won two honors: First, Carol Hanley, Campaign Activities Chair, presented Alamo City Republican Women with the Texas Federation of Republican Women award for the most volunteer hours in the "super jumbo" club category: Then Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst presented me with a check for $l,750.00 and a massive gavel, which is a replica of the one he uses in the State Senate. We one first place in the Lt. Governor's contest for the most volunteer hours in the "super jumbo" club category. His contest began after the 2008 primary election. You all did such a wonderful job last year and we want you to keep up the good work and turn in those volunteer hours to Patty Miller.
We topped off April with another outstanding speaker at our luncheon--Marc Del Signore of Baslice and Associates. Despite being Fiesta week with many members out of town, we had a fantastic attendance; members didn't want Marc to stop answering their questions. As I have mentioned in the past, I am so impressed with these bright young men we have in our party!
Are you displeased with what is going on in Washington and/or Austin? If you are, please contact your representative and let them know how you feel. Personally, I feel a phone call to Washington or Austin is the best method. Often, calls to local offices do not get reported to the top. We can make a difference if we just take time to do this.
I hope you are as excited as I am about our 50 anniversary party. It is going to be a wonderful evening. If you have any old pictures of past presidents or any of the Alamo City Republican Women's events, we would like to borrow them to make copies.
The May l9th luncheon will be our final one before summer begins, and we have another interesting speaker lined up for this event. We will be holding our annual new member orientation luncheon late in July for all of our members who joined after June 30th last year. They will receive a special invitation in the mail.
