President's Messages > January 10

Do you think we can top 2009? I do! It was a fantastic year for Alamo City Republican Women. We had awesome speakers at every luncheon and we increased our membership by 22% over 2008. First, on Legislative Day in April we won the Dewhurst Award for the most volunteer hours in the super-jumbo club category. We won the Diamond Award in September at The National Federation of Republican Women Convention in Florida. Then at The Texas Federation of Republican Women convention held in November on Galveston Island, we won the John Tower Achievement Award. We did have an excellent Executive Board in 2009. However, it was the team effort of the board and the membership that made us so great. We have another excellent board for 2010—a combination of former board members and some new ones, so I know we will have another great year.

I hope you all enjoyed our Christmas luncheon. The Halow Kui Ukulele Band and dancers were great fun and I know many of you enjoyed the sing-along! One of our long-time members, Nancy Goya, plays in the band; unfortunately, she was on a month- long South American cruise, so we didn't get to hear her play. Borah Van Dormolen, our new National Republican Committee Woman for Texas, was outstanding. She came down from Salado on very short notice after we were notified that County Commissioner Kevin Wolff would be unable to be present. I also want to thank all of the members who provided door prizes so that everyone in attendance received a small gift.

Please mark your calendars that a Leadership Seminar will be held in Austin on January 30th. If you have never attended a Leadership Seminar put on by the Texas Federation of Republican Women, this is the perfect time to do so. I have attended these many times and continue to learn something new each time. The deadline to register is January 15th so be sure to get your registration form in by that date. There is another Federation event in Austin on the 29th featuring Dana Perino, former Press Secretary at the White House for President George W. Bush. If you are interested in attending on that Friday evening, the form is on the Federation website www.tfrw.org. We have shrunk the Leadership Day registration form in this newsletter in order to get it all on one page; however, this form too, is on the website.

I want to thank you personally for all the support you have given me and to let you know how proud I am to serve as your President. I have said this before---if you have any thoughts or ideas to help make our club even better, I would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Freida Wright
