On the Friday following the November luncheon a group of Alamo City Republican Women attended the Texas Federation of Republican Women’s convention in Fort Worth. What a great time we had connecting with old friends and making new friends. Secretary Donald Rumsfield spoke at the opening night gala. He is amazing and is still so popular among Republicans. All of the speakers were outstanding as were the seminars. I think this was one of the best conventions I have attended.
Alamo City won two awards at the convention in Fort Worth plus Shirley Cooper was chosen as one of the Ten Outstanding Women in Texas politics—see articles inside this newsletter.
In October 2013 the Texas Federation of Republican Women’s convention will be held in San Antonio so I know we have many more of our members either attending as delegates or as volunteers. The convention hotel will be The Grand Hyatt and, as reported last month, our own Gogi Dickson is one of the co-chairs. The conventions are so educational plus we get to meet the candidates on a personal level which makes it easier to make a choice when there is more than one Republican candidate in a race.
At this point I would like to thank Jan Kenady, the National Federation of Republican’s Parliamentarian, for coming down to conduct the election for our 2012 Executive Board.
She was ably assisted by Jennifer and Donna of New Braunfels Republican Women who handed out the butterfly stickers and provided the ballots. A special “thank you” goes to Karen Angelini, Justice, 4th Court of Appeals, Phylis Speedlin, 4th Court of Appeals and Patty Miller who served as tellers.
You have elected a great team of officers who will work on your behalf and who will ensure that this club continues to be the largest and greatest club in Texas.
On a personal note, from the bottom of my heart, “thank you” for putting your trust in me to be your leader for 2012. I love serving as your president and I promise I will work hard for you and for our candidates in 2012. However, what makes this club so great is all of you who step forward to serve as committee chairs, serve on committees or just show up when we put the call out for volunteers.
Remember to invite a friend to the Christmas luncheon. I am looking forward to seeing you there.
