President's Messages > January 2013

By the time you read this the holidays will be over and the Board of Directors hope you had a wonderful Christmas and now it is on to 2013. What a great 2012 we had and I know 2013 will be even better. You are all so appreciated for the thousands of hours you worked for various campaigns and for your donations to candidates.

Coming up for 2013 we have lots of exciting events for you to mark on your calendars. First there is the regional workshop which will be held in New Braunfels in Februay. If you are new to the board, new to the club or just want to learn more, this will be a good event for you to sign up for. The information is inside this newsletter.

As many of you already know, this is the year the Legislature is in session and Republican women, wearing red, descend on Austin for what we call Legislative Day. This year it is scheduled for April 17th. We will car pool to Austin, visit both the Senate and the House, shop in the Capitol gift shop and who knows what other exciting events the Texas Federation has planned for us. Details will be in a following newsletter.

On October 17, 18 and 19, 2013 the biggest event of the year will take place for us. Right here in San Antonio, the Texas Federation of Republican Women’s 29th Biennial Convention is going to be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, 600 East Market Street. We hope you will plan to attend the convention and to also volunteer. No long distance driving, no hotel bills, just a daily trip downtown! You could even ride the bus downtown if you do not like to drive. You will get to network with fabulous women from across the state, meet all the statewide elected officials along with candidates who will be vying for a spot in your heart as they prepare for the 2014 elections. There will be exciting workshops, an opening night gala, luncheons, dinners and breakfasts all included in your registration fee.

If you are wondering why I haven’t mentioned our guest speaker Borah Van Dormolen it is because I am writing this before the 18th luncheon. I know Borah will be outstanding because she always is! I am leaving early on the 19th so we have to have the newsletter prepared way in advance especially since the meeting will be on the 15th of January.

I would like to personally thank all of you for putting your trust in me to once again lead this fantastic organization. I also want to thank the outgoing Board — you are all amazing and I could not have done this without all of you. Some of you are returning for 2013 and I appreciate your commitment to serve another year. The contact information for the new board and committee members is inside. We still have a few vacancies. Call me if you want more information. Call the committee member direct if you would like to serve on any special committee. All chairs need at least one person to take over if they are going to be out of town. The telephone chair needs many helpers.

Happy New Year and I hope to see you on the 15th. Freida Wright
