President's Messages > September '06

There are so many political events taking place and so many candidates who are in need of your help. As I have said many times, if you cannot give money, please give your time. The media tells us that Republicans are going to stay home this election--let's prove them wrong! Please make certain that all of your friends, relatives and children are registered to vote, and then make sure they do get to the polls.

If you have relatives or friends on the Southside of San Antonio, please get them to put political signs in their yards. U. S. Congressman Bonilla needs the help of those who reside in his district. I am sure that most of you know that he has many opponents due to the re-districting situation. There are lots of volunteer opportunities listed on his website: www.henrybonilla.com. And if you live in U. S. Congressman Lamar Smith's district, he also has volunteer opportunities listed on his website: www.texansforlamarsmith.com. We have a great slate of candidates on the ballot, and since we are a partisan organization, I have no problem encouraging everyone to vote a straight Republican ticket! Early voting begins October 23rd. Vote early if possible--you never know if something is going to happen to prevent you from voting on Election Day.

We are so fortunate to have the First Lady of Texas as our speaker in October. We had to change our luncheon day to Wednesday the 25th, and Oak Hills Country Club was very accommodating in getting us rescheduled by asking another group to change their set-up time. Please start inviting your friends right now so they can keep that date open. Mrs. Perry is such a gracious lady, and I know you will enjoy meeting her. If you want to get a group of friends together and reserve a table for eight in advance, we will be doing that for this luncheon only.

I hope you will enjoy our handbook; we have already received address changes. I do apologize for any name and/address errors. We promise we will do better next time. I have been questioned as to why e-mail addresses are not listed in the handbook. We felt that we should not publicize them without permission; also, some members change their e-mail addresses frequently.

We are looking forward to seeing you on the l9th.
