She was a winner, as we knew she would be! Despite her very busy schedule in Austin, Texas Comptroller, Susan Combs, rushed down to San Antonio to address Alamo City Republican Women. Susan was great as the Texas Agricultural Commissioner, and we know she is going to be a very successful comptroller. She explained how she is already cutting out a lot of waste, saving the taxpayers money, and how she plans to do much more to streamline the comptroller's office.
We had a great meeting; it was good to see Judge Massey and Judge Diaz, along with the newly appointed Associate Judge, Delia Carian. One of our new members called to tell me how much she enjoyed the luncheon. She commented that everyone was so friendly, and it was an exciting and vibrant experience for her. Another member e-mailed and said, "Everybody is so energetic in ACRW." I hope all of our members feel this way because that is what we strive for. By bringing in great guest speakers, we not only want to educate our members, we also want it to be in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
By the time you read this, representatives from Alamo City Republican Women will have participated in the Second Annual Western Whitehouse Easter Egg Roll at Crawford. This is a "thank you" to military families from Fort Hood and surrounding areas. Approximately one thousand children are expected this year. Alamo City Republican Women is having a booth where children will toss ping-pong balls into glass jars to win live fish, including the bowl. Losers will get candy. There will be a report and pictures on the website, so be sure to check this out.
Please vote in your city elections. Early voting begins on April 30th and ends May 8th. Election Day is Saturday, May l2th. As you have previously heard me say, even if you do not live in San Antonio, everything that goes on in San Antonio does still affect you, so please remind your San Antonio friends to vote. Let them know there are only three Republicans running for council seats in San Antonio. We have Jacob Dell in District 8, Kevin Wolff in District 9 and John Clamp in District l0. Kevin has no opponent, John has one and Jacob has seven. These young men really need our help. Please offer to make phone calls, walk your street, make a donation or put a sign in your yard. Politics affects every area of our life and you can make a difference.
We will be holding our New Member Orientation in May. All of the 2007 new members will be receiving an invitation in the mail very soon. A Texas Federation of Republican Women board member will be introducing you to both the Texas and National Federations of Republican Women. We will also be inviting locally elected officials to drop by so that you may get to know them on a personal level. Please mark your calendars now for the 11:00AM reception on Saturday, May 5, 2007. The Executive Board will provide lunch.
Lyle Larson, our lone Republican on the County Commissioner's Court, will be giving us an update on the state of our Çounty at the next luncheon.
We look forward to seeing you there.
