President's Messages > June/July 2008

If you thought you had missed an issue of the Alamo City Republican Women's newsletter, you didn't!  We do a June/July combination issue since we do not hold luncheons during the summer months.

At our May 29th luncheon, Texas Comptroller, Susan Combs, did an outstanding job of explaining all the changes she has made since taking over the office and told of the large amount of money she has saved the taxpayers of Texas by cutting out so much waste.  We are blessed to have her in this important position.

We held our Annual Retama Classic two days later, on May 31;  I am pleased to report that once again, it was a roaring success.  Our wounded-warrior guests from Brook Army Medical Center had a great time, and one busload stayed and closed the place down!    I want to thank all of our supporters who made it possible for us to include these wounded warriors for the second year. They and their families were so appreciative.

All of our supporters are listed inside this newsletter.   I would be remiss if I didn't thank all of the members and some spouses who stepped up to the plate after our Ways and Means Chairwoman resigned her position in April.  Gogi Dickson and Olga Vasquez took on the job of organizing the Silent Auction.   Tommye Crabb once again did the beautiful table decorations.  Ken and Carolyn McCollister manned the registration table.   Sharon Kemp kept track of all the money.  Jackie Duke took over the jewelry sales.  Barbara Bearr accepted reservations and questions.  Other helpers were Patsy Lee, Margie Beitzel, Dottie Merrill, Grace Joyner and Sara White.  I hope I haven't overlook anyone; if I have, please accept my apologies.

Our Annual New Member Orientation Brunch is being held on July 19th for all members who joined Alamo City Republican Women after May 2007.    We will have two representatives from the Republican Party of Texas and one from the Texas Federation of Republican Women there to answer all of your questions.  All local candidates and elected officials have been invited so that you may get to know them in an informal setting.   The event is to be held in a private home and the Executive Board will provide lunch.  If you do not receive an invitation by July 17, please contact Betty Ford, New Member Liaison at 366-1829, Barbara Bearr at 34-5482 or me at 494-6393.
