President's Message

With the Inauguration of Governor Perry taking place in Austin at the same time as our luncheon, who would have thought that we would have a full house? Well we did, and what a great luncheon it was! Not only did we have our scheduled speaker, Dr. Jeffrey Addicott, we also had Sue Lynch, President of the National Federation of Republican Women, in attendance; she spoke to us briefly. Then we had an outstanding 17 year old student, Braxton Gately address us. With bright young students coming up behind us, it gives one hope that all is not lost! I believe I am correct is saying our speaker, Jeffrey Addicott, not only sold two cases of his books at the luncheon, he also took orders for thirteen additional books at $60.00 a copy. Bud Little, candidate for City Council District 10, spoke of his candidacy; Carol Patterson, Edwards Aquifer Board member, spoke briefly on water issues; we ended with Dr. Johnny Lovejoy, State Republican Executive Committee member, Senatorial District 26. What a wonderful meeting to start off the new year.

Alamo City Republican Women member, Margaret Cluck, has generously offered her home to us for our annual Membership Recruitment Reception on the 22nd. Yes, we did change the date to the fourth Tuesday of the month in order to accommodate our speaker, Congressman Lamar Smith, who will be on Spring break that week. This is going to be another great event. Here it is (as I write this) only Jan 28 and Barbara is already receiving reservations! I must admit that I did put it on Facebook yesterday and that is why she is getting reservations so early.

There is always confusion over the cost to attend. If you have paid your 2011 dues it is $10.00. For all others it is $35.00 which includes free membership. Please do not try to bring guests and only pay $10.00 for them. This did happen last year. Your check is your reservation so, please send the appropriate amount to Sharon Kemp, 2014 Adobe Trail, San Antonio, TX 78232.

As you have probably already heard, many of our Republican friends have already announced their intention to run for Senator Hutchison's seat that will become vacant at the end of 2012. As a club,we cannot support any candidate if there is more than one candidate running for the same position; also, they are not allowed to speak at our luncheons unless all candidates attend. Once the Primary election is over in 2012, we can then openly support the winner. However, you may personally support the candidates financially and attend their events.

I am looking forward to seeing you on February 2. Please remember to bring a friend.
