President's Messages > April 2011

Presidents message

It was Spring break, but we still had a very nice attendance at the March luncheon to hear what Alamo City Republican Women member, Elisa Chan, had to say about what is going on now, and what is expected in the future, in San Antonio. Not only did Elisa give a great presentation, she also fielded questions from the floor. Thank you Elisa--great job!

A group of our members attended Legislative Day in Austin in March. I was unable to attend at the last minute so our “ready, willing and able” second vice-president, Josie Dickerson, stepped in and accepted Alamo City Republican Women's awards. Thank you, Josie! Our Fiesta-themed gift basket was beautiful and the person who won it, Billye Fietz, of Horseshoe Bay, is a Texas Federation of Republican Women District Director for SD 24. Billye called me the next day to say how thrilled she was with the basket and all the wonderful items stuffed inside. She especially liked the “Miss Fiesta” Barbie doll which she planned to give to her granddaughter the next day. After we chatted a while, she said she would love to come to Alamo City Republican Women's March luncheon. And she did--what a lovely lady!

Our speaker for April, Ted Cruz, has announced he is one of the candidates running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Senator Hutchison in 2012. Many of our friends are running for this same seat, and we are attempting to invite all of the announced candidates before the end of the year to make sure you meet all of them.

In the March issue of our newsletter, we stated it was your final issue if you had not paid your 2011 dues. However, our treasurer was out of town so the same label list was printed for April as for March since we did not know who had mailed in dues. Please check your label. If there is a 10 after your name on the label, you have not paid for 2011. Please continue to support us. In just nine months all the various candidates will be filing to be on the 2012 primary ballot and we want you to meet them all. Many will be visiting us and you will personally get to know them and learn what they stand for. The price to join is still only $25.00. Please send your check to Sharon Kemp, 2014, Adobe Trail, San Antonio, TX 78232 or bring it to them April luncheon.
