President's Messages > March 2011

For those of you who didn't make it to the reception on February 22nd, Congressman Lamar Smith gave an outstanding update on what is going on in Washington. He answered many questions from the floor and then stayed to mingle with the guests. Thank you, Congressman Smith!

An extra special thank you goes to Margaret Cluck, who once again gave us the use of her lovely Olmos Park home. Unfortunately she was unable to be there. She had surgery on January 26th and was still in a rehabilitation center. Her son Jonathan stepped in as host, opening the house for us on the 21st and then arriving early on Tuesday to greet all the attendees.

The morning started out very windy and cool but it turned out to be a lovely day. The food provided by Alamo City Republican Women members was delicious--as always. Our membership chair was unable to attend due to both the date change and a prior vacation commitment, but she had everything and everyone organized in advance. Thank you, Helen! It is marvelous how everyone just steps in to make sure that the event runs smoothly.

A very special thanks goes to Barbara Bearr and Ken and Carolyn McCollister who sat outside in the chilly weather to register all our attendees, plus the greeters and name-tag volunteers who were also stationed outside. The kitchen volunteers, the food and punch servers were fantastic as usual; and thank you to the helpers who stayed so we could leave the home in the same condition as we found it.

I know many of you filled out a Ways and Means survey at the reception. However, if you were not in attendance, please fill out the survey inside this newsletter. Your input is really needed by the Ways and Means Committee. We must have new ideas to have successful fundraisers so that we can build our candidates' fund back up ready for the 2012 election. You may bring the survey to the next luncheon or mail it to Josie Dickerson, 34503 Elm Hill Drive, San Antonio, TX 78230.

Our guest speaker for March will be one of our members, Elisa Chan. Please try to be there to support Elisa.
