President's Messages > September 2011

During the long hot summer months we tend to put local politics aside but now with the cooler weather knocking at the door, it is time to get revved up again. The media does tend to keep us focused on the presidential candidates but let's not forget our local races including the judiciary. We can't be expected to participate in everything so be sure to find the candidates most important to you and then make a commitment to help them with either your time or your money. The primary elections will be held in March and from then on it is going to be a busy and exciting ride to the November 2012 election.

Be sure to read the report inside this newsletter from Borah Van Dormolen, our Texas Republican National Committee Woman. Borah has addressed Alamo City Republican Women numerous times over the years. She is a past president of the Texas Federation of Republican Women. She is doing an excellent job for us, as is our Texas Republican National Committee Man, Bill Crocker.

I want to give a special “thank you” to Deana Abiassi for opening her beautiful home to us for Annual New Member Brunch on August 13th. The food provided by the Executive Board was delicious as usual. Dr. Johnny Lovejoy, SREC SD 26, spoke on the Republican Party Structure and the importance of attending Precinct and Senatorial Conventions. Jennifer Lambert, Deputy TFRW President for Region 9, spoke on the structure and upcoming events of the Texas Federation of Republican Women. We were also honored to have Senator Jeff Wentworth, Justice Steve Hilbig and Judge Laura Parker address us.

At the September luncheon we will be electing two members to the Nominating Committee plus two alternates. Please let me know if you would like to serve. This is a very important committee. You will be seeking and interviewing candidates for the 2012 Executive Board. This is a good way to meet and get to know other members of the club. The slate of officers must be presented at the October luncheon, voted on at the November luncheon and sworn in at the December luncheon. The Executive Committee will be electing three members and three alternates from the board to serve on the Nominating Committee at the August Board Meeting, in compliance with our bylaws. If you would like to be considered to serve on the Executive Committee in an elected position, please let me know as soon as possible after the September luncheon so I can turn your name in to the Nominating Committee.

I am looking forward to seeing you at the September luncheon.
