President's Messages > January 2014

We did it again!   What a fun Christmas luncheon and thank you Alamo City Board members for making it so.  Just under 200 people showed up!   I know a few members complained that they were kind of crowded because we had to have 10 guests per table but with the piano there just wasn’t room for more tables.

A special “Thank you” to Robin Roewe, Worship Pastor at Castle Hills First Baptist Church for playing the piano for and leading our carol sing-along.   Robin provided the words to the carols and Deana Abiassi printed them out for us.   Lt. Governor Dewhurst loved it and said it was the first sing along he had attended at a Republican luncheon. Rep. Branch, our other guest speaker was heartily singing along too.   I think it got everyone there in the “holiday mood”.

We received many words of praise from the Dewhurst and Branch staff members at how they felt so welcome at the luncheon.  One of the young men said he enjoyed it so much he wants to visit us again just if it was to get a hug from Sara, our greeting chair!

Lt. Governor Dewhurst installed the 2014 Executive Board and I know we are going to have another successful year.  We already have some great plans in the works but we need your help so please volunteer to be on a committee or to be a committee chair.

2013 was an exciting year and kept many of us busy with the Texas Federation of Republican Women’s convention held her in October.  I can assure you 2014 is going to be an even busier time.  We have the primary elections on March 4, with the Precinct Conventions being held at 7:30 that evening at the polling location. On March 22ndthe Senatorial Conventions will be held followed by the State Convention in Ft. Worth June 5-7.   We should all plan on attending the Precinct and Senatorial Conventions.  These are local and this  is what grassroots activism is all about.  Read  “Steps to the Convention” in your Alamo City Republican Women’s handbook if you are interested in going to the state convention.

We will be giving you more dates and details of events in the following weeks.  Of course, the grand finale for 2014 will be the November elections.   I must say I often get a little discouraged when I hear Republicans working so hard against other Republicans with such negative talk.   We should all be working to oust the liberal Democrats locally and nationally and then take care of the family squabbles.   There is no perfect candidate that everyone we can agree with 100%.     This is just my personal opinion but I am certain that if  we don’t all pull together it will be a win for the D’s in November.
