President's Messages > October 2005

The National Convention in Nashville was awesome! The Gaylord Opry is massive; it contains 3,000 rooms. We all walked miles and got totally lost numerous times! The entertainment was wonderful--just what one would expect in "Music City, USA." The speakers and seminars were great. We have a new National President, Beverly Davis, from Utah; she was challenged from the floor by the Florida State President and won by only seven votes. Some were disappointed because they felt the challenger to be more vivacious, who had wonderful ideas on where the Federation should be heading. The proposed raising of our dues to the National Federation was overwhelmingly voted down and postponed indefinitely. Maybe some of you do not know that currently $5.00 of your membership dues is passed on to the National Headquarters in Washington and $5.00 goes to the Texas Federation. We are also called clubs again. For awhile we were officially called units; however, Alamo City Repbulican Women never did use that term--we felt it was "prison" terminology!

It is now on to Corpus Christi November 11-13 for the Texas Federation of Republican Women's 50th Anniversary celebration. We still have a place for you if you wish to attend. Delegate registrations must be postmarked by October l2th. The theme for the convention is "Making Waves." Do you know of someone who has made waves whom we can recognize?

Do you keep up with our website? Do you check the ACRW News page and the calendar to see what is going on? Remember, the website belongs to you; so if you feel there needs to be any changes made, please let us know. If you have any photographs you would like to put on the site, feel free to send them along.

If you attended our recent luncheon, you know the next exciting event coming up for us is Monte Carlo Casino night at Aggie Park on November l8th. Invite your friends and send your reservations in immediately--it is something new for us and I know it will be great fun and very successful.

A special thank you goes to all of you who keep recruiting new members. For the past five years Alamo City Republican Women has grown. I receive all of the statistics from across the state and most clubs go up and down in their membership, but not Alamo City.

You are all the greatest!
