President's Messages > January 2008

A "sea of red" was what Lt. Governor Dewhurst encountered when he entered the ballroom at Oak Hills Country Club for our Christmas luncheon.  A special "thank you" goes to all the ladies who remembered to wear their red outfits, and to the gentlemen who wore their red ties!  We had a fun meeting.  Despite arriving late due to construction on I-35 forcing traffic into one lane, the Lt. Governor generously made a point of going table-to-table to greet members and their guests.  We had a full house too--the manager had to squeeze in another table besides adding extra place settings at the tables.

We really appreciate State Representative Frank Corte for installing the 2008 Executive Board and presenting each one with a red rose.  Senator Jeff Wentworth introduced Lt. Governor Dewhurst; and he had the audience in his hands after telling some hilarious jokes on the Lt. Governor.  Many members had never met the Lt. Governor before, although he is a big supporter of the Texas Federation of Republican Women.  When Republican Women travel to Austin on Legislative Day, each attendee receives a yellow rose from the Lt. Governor.  He hosted an opening night gala for us at the El Paso Museum of Art at the Texas Republican Women's convention in November, held in El Paso.

After the Lt. Governor left our meeting, we gave away over seventy free door prizes, the majority of which were donated by board members.  I know that many people had to leave in order to get back to work, and I apologize for the length of the program, but it really was due to unforeseen circumstances.

For the finale, all 2008 candidates present were introduced again and spoke for two minutes.  Once again we have some splendid candidates; some are incumbents and some are new.  So, please pick one or more and suport them in any way you can.

The year 2007 was another successful year for Alamo City Republican Women.   I always think each year that we cannot top the previous year--but then we do!  We had an awesome team in 2007, and I know the 2008 team will be too.  The majority of committee chairs are staying on, albeit a few are switching around.  The 2008 list of committee chairs will be printed in our next newsletter along with their phone numbers.  If you are inerested in serving on a particular committee, please contact the chairman involved direct.

I wish you all a happy and healthy 2008.
